GAETI Day 4

As we wind down the week, there have been a wide variety of activities done. Not all have dealt with my subject are, but I can certainly modify it in some way. It is VERY interesting to hear all of the social studies people discuss certain topics! It's also nice to be able to talk about some of these "touchy" topics as a group and figure out how to bring them to our classes, of various ages, in a safe and teachable way. The Found Poem activity was my favorite activity today. (Archaeology is my first love; I enjoyed the museum immensely!)This is a great way to handle current events and political cartoons that deal with activities going on in other cultures. Students can read a passage and choose a phrase that interests them, and the groups works together to create a poem and they get the gist of article! Those low level readers do not get left behind and hopefully will gain some self confidence in the process by being actively involved in this process with their peers! Whew!
